British Values

Promoting British Values

At Chilworth Infant & Nursery School we uphold and teach pupils about the British Values which are:

  1. Democracy
  2. The rule of Law
  3. Individual Liberty
  4. Mutual Respect
  5. Tolerance

These values are taught explicitly through Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Religious Education (RE).  We also teach British Values through planning and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum.

At Chilworth Infant & Nursery School, these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:

Democracy

Democracy is an important value at our school. Pupils are asked what they enjoy learning about and what they would like to change or do more of.

The Rule of Law

Each class has their own class rules to learn. These are decided by the class for the class.

The school rules were written by the school council and delivered to the whole school via an assembly.

Individual Liberty

In school and class we are encouraged to ask for anything because we don’t fear people saying no. We have class discussions frequently and we can share our thoughts on anything.

Mutual Respect

We respect others no matter how we look, or what gender we are; or what race or religion we are.

Tolerance

We respect and acknowledge that different children in school believe different things. We enjoy learning about other religions.
