Pond and Wildlife Area provided by the Friends of Chilworth
(as it was in November 2007)
Welcome to our Web Page. The Friends of Chilworth Infant School is the name given to our parent teacher association. Every parent is a member, as are members of staff and governors. Our aim is to further enhance our children's education and enjoyment whilst at Chilworth School by raising additional funds. Through our fundraising efforts parents are rewarded with a great social calendar!
The 'Friends' completely fund the swimming pool - which children use every day in the summer term, and which is open in the summer holidays for existing children and those starting school in September.
Some of the costs we have helped to raise funds for are the TV licence, rental and various subscriptions; educational equipment; subsidised school outings; books, PE and playground equipment. In recent years, the 'Friends' have also helped fund a new ICT suite, developed a 'Quiet' area in the playground and purchased new classroom furniture and a sound system for the school hall.
Every year we hold a Christmas and summer fair (except in 2007 and 2009 when Happy's Circus visited us instead of the fair), along with various other events such as : jumble sale, video evenings, wine tasting, disco evening, quiz night, promises auction, race night… to name but a few…. The 'Friends' secured a grant from Surrey County Council AONB, to develop a pond and wildlife area in the school grounds. Both children and parents helped to build the area, which was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Pauline Searle, during Splash Day on Sunday 8th June 2008. We even had our own flypast with a Lancaster bomber flying overhead just after the opening! The Pond & Wildlife Area is a great resource to have and will enable the children to undertake more outdoor activities as part of their topic based work.
Meetings are held regularly and everyone is welcome to attend. They are relaxed and informal and everyone has a chance to have their say. Please do join us at one of our events and see for yourself how special our school is. We can also be contacted at: Friends@chilworth.surrey.sch.uk
